Distance learning and clinical excellence converge at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC’s Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine On-Campus Bootcamp, a five-day immersive experience that serves as the defining milestone of the OFPOM Distance Learning program. This cornerstone experience challenges students to demonstrate mastery across the full scope of orofacial pain and oral medicine clinical practice.
Program Director Dr. Anette Vistoso Monreal, DDS, MS, DABOP, Director of Distance Learning Programs, Director of the Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine Program, leads an expert interprofessional faculty team that guides students through a demanding curriculum of hands-on clinical skill stations, live patient rotations, and comprehensive competency assessments from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day.
Assessment techniques include rigorous OSCEs, complex case-based examinations, and clinical Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs). Students practice and are assessed on trigger point and articular injection techniques, extraoral examination, head and neck muscle palpation, jaw and cervical range of motion testing, imaging and polysomnography interpretation, and prescription management, ensuring every graduate emerges with the sophisticated skill set that defines excellence in this specialized field.
