Description:
This two-hour webinar brings together Community Oral Health and Geriatric Dentistry faculty to examine equitable access to dental care for older adults ā addressing the systemic forces that drive disparities and translating those realities into clinical practice at the chairside.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
nterpret epidemiologic trends in older adult oral health ā edentulism, untreated caries, and periodontal disease ā and explain how these patterns reflect social and policy inequities that shape access to care.
2. Describe how Medicare and Medicaid benefit design interacts with social determinants of health to limit care access, and identify multilevel strategies ā including community programs and workforce innovations ā to reduce oral health disparities.
3. Apply a geriatric assessment framework ā accounting for frailty, polypharmacy, and functional status ā to dental treatment planning for older adults.
4. Demonstrate culturally responsive communication with older patients and care teams, and articulate a model for integrating geriatric dental care into aging services networks to advance oral health equity.
