Piedad Suarez-Durall, DDS

Professor of Clinical Dentistry

Dr. Piedad Suarez Durall, DDS, MS, is Professor of Clinical Dentistry and Department Chair of Geriatrics, Special Needs and Behavioral Sciences at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. She received her DDS from Universidad de Costa Rica, her certificate in Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine from USC Ostrow, and her MS in Gerontology from the USC Davis School of Gerontology.

A faculty member at Ostrow since 2006, Dr. Suarez Durall is an internationally recognized expert in orofacial pain, oral medicine, geriatric dentistry, special needs care, and the dental management of medically compromised patients — including persons living with HIV/AIDS. She holds a fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry from the Special Care Dentistry Association and regularly publishes and presents to national and international audiences.

Dr. Suarez Durall is currently part of an interdisciplinary team of four senior USC faculty studying aging in indigenous populations of Tsimane and Moseten tribes in Bolivia — research that reflects her longstanding commitment to understanding oral health across diverse and underserved communities.
