USC Special Patients Clinic Receives $3.4M Grant for Major Expansion

The Dr. Roseann Mulligan Special Patients Clinic at USC’s Ostrow School of Dentistry has been awarded a $3.4 million grant from the California Health Facilities Financing Authority to upgrade and expand its facilities. The renovations will help address the critical need for dental care among special needs populations.

Renovation Details:

  • 8 existing operatories to be renovated
  • 3 new operatories to be added for bariatric patients and those using mobility devices
  • Enlarged treatment areas to accommodate caregivers
  • New accessible restroom facilities
  • Electronic health record review room
  • Updated patient check-in area

Expected Impact:

  • 40% increase in annual patient visits
  • Significant reduction in waitlist times
  • Completion expected by October 2027

About the Clinic: Founded in 1985 by Dr. Roseann Mulligan, the clinic serves adult patients with cognitive and developmental delays, physical disabilities, the elderly, and those living with HIV/AIDS. It has trained nearly 8,000 dental professionals over four decades.
