Master of Science in Community Oral Health

If you are interested in learning and applying the principles of public health in solving the issues related to oral health and oral health care delivery to oral health care, consider the Master of Science in Community Oral Health. The program is suitable to a wide swath of backgrounds (such as healthcare workers, public health practitioners, pre-med or pre-dental students, dental hygienists, social workers, future healthcare providers, health administrators or educators, communicators, policymakers, and advocates).

The COH Master’s is a 2-year program, with courses outlined by trimester.

COH 710	2 units	Roseann Mulligan, DDS, MS	Health Assessment Focusses on the importance of health assessment in order to understand the needs and priorities of a community. The concepts of vulnerability and inequality are addressed, identifying strategies to achieve appropriate health care and healthy communities.
COH 706	2 units	Rebecca Ortiz Bodensteiner, MAT, RDH	Foundations and Strategies in Health Education Examines the impact of education in community health, identifying strategies to engage and empower the members of the community to achieve health and wellness.
COH 705	2 units	Mina Habibian, DMD, MSc, PhD	Research and Biostatistics in Healthcare Healthcare research encompasses a wide range of research disciplines including basic and applied research. This course introduces participants to the research process with emphasis on different types of research methods and designs frequently used to study health and health care delivery.
COH 703	2 units	Kristine Decano Parungao, RDHAP, MSCOH	Community Health Program Planning and Implementation This course incorporates a service learning approach involving a partnership between the student, community organization, and designated faculty or research team members
COH 593b	2 units	Mina Habibian, DMD, MSc, PhD, Mariela Padilla, DDS, M.Ed	Capstone Project Preparation and presentation of research capstone experience of the program, final report needs to be of a quality that it could be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
COH 593a	2 units	Mina Habibian, DMD, MSc, PhD	Capstone Project Instructs ways to successfully conduct a systematic review by covering the 5 steps: Formulating the research question, searching the literature, assessing the quality, summarizing the evidence and interpreting the findings.
